LOS ANGELES -- Elliot Yamin was eliminated from the American Idol competition, but no one, especially the odds makers, thought it would be that close a call. When the final votes were tallied, each

The votes were revealed after each contestant was shown getting the star treatment from their hometown fans. It appeared that nearly everyone in the state of Alabama came out to see Taylor Hicks. There were thousands of fans at every stop on his busy day. The proceedings for Katherine McPhee were more subdued. People in Southern California have enough stars to go around. Elliot's day was more like Taylor's, with people thronging to see him.
Elliot, who was considered an underdog to win, managed to outlast some very stiff competition with his easy-going manner and upbeat attitude. Arguably more of an artist than either of the remaining contestants, his departure brought tears from longtime supporter Paula Abdul.
PinnacleSports has already posted who they think will win. They've picked Taylor Hicks to be crowned the next American Idol.
