KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansan: "During nearly nine-hour long meeting Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, the Unified Government Board of Commissioners voted to move forward casino
proposals from the Kansas Speedway and Legends Sun. But the commission split on a controversial proposal from Sands Kansas, leading to a tiebreaking vote from UG Mayor/CEO Joe Reardon - who voted against the proposal.
"Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, Reardon sided with Commissioners Mike Kane, Mark Holland, Tom Cooley and Pat Pettey in giving Sands Kansas the boot - despite a threat of legal action from the casino company if the UG didn't move their proposal forward
"...On Monday, commissioners approved plans from KS&F Development and one of two plans from Pinnacle Entertainment, while denying the second proposal from Pinnacle.
"Now, the UG will decide how many of the four remaining proposals they will endorse, sending endorsed proposals along to the Kansas Lottery Commission for final approval. Any Kansas City, Kan., proposals endorsed will likely also be considered alongside a proposal from Golden Gaming in Edwardsville..."
