BENSALEM, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: “Officials at Philadelphia Park are preparing for the introduction of slot machines to the Bensalem, Pennsylvania, racetrack
Picnic Grove at Philadelphia Park as soon as later this year. The Pennsylvania Gaming Board, currently reviewing bids from slot machine manufacturers, is expected to award racetrack slot licenses in the coming months.
“Greenwood Racing Inc. President Hal Handel, whose company operates Philadelphia Park, said plans are in the works for immediate introduction of slot machines inside the current racing facility once the board awards the track a license. A separate slot machine casino is slated for construction adjacent to the racetrack property.
“Handle said the first and second floors of Philadelphia Park temporarily will house slot machines until that separate facility is constructed. Racing operations will move to the now unoccupied third floor, which will feature grandstand-style seating, mutuel bays, a temporary dining facility, and a room for preferred players.
“...Philadelphia Park's first and second floors, which were remodeled in 1999, house three restaurants, a sports bar, and a box seat area with food service. Handel said the floors will be rebuilt to accommodate racing when the permanent slot parlor is completed.
“...Philadelphia Park increased its purse structure in 2005 in anticipation of upcoming slot machine revenue.”
