'Colorado' Klein Wins Oklahoma Championship Limit Omaha H/L Event
Joe Klein, of Golden Colorado, was the victor in the Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event of the “Oklahoma State Championship of Poker” Tuesday, February 6th, at the Cherokee Casino. Out of a field of 186 players, Klein took 1st Place and was awarded $17,186 in prize money, a handsome diamond ring, and a seat in the $25,000 WPT Championship.
Heads-up, Klein had to defeat Jim Shaw, last year’s Omaha H/L Champion. With about a 2-to-1 chip lead and great cards, it didn’t take him long to eliminate the former champ and claim the 2007 title.
“I play a lot of poker tournaments and this has to be one of the best,” Klein said, “It’s well run and very well attended.” “Any player can take a lot of pride in winning here,” he added.
The 2007 “Oklahoma State Championship of Poker” continues through February 13th. Half way through the tournament, participation and prize money for every event has exceeded all previous records. “We pleased with the exceptional response,” declared Director of Poker and Table Games, Rick O’ Connell, a principal architect of the Cherokee’s success.
