Lincoln Park's Twin River Casino Opens

RHODE ISLAND – As reported by the BostonChannel.com: "Rhode Island's Lincoln Park dog track unveiled one of the biggest gambling centers in the country on Friday.

Twin River Casino at Lincoln Park is one of the largest in the country.  Pam Cross reported that the center, called Twin River will feature more than 4,700 slot machines -- more than a Las Vegas casino. The center will also feature a 2,000-seat arena, a comedy club and new restaurants, including a steak house opened by two NFL veterans.

"Lincoln Park has spent $220 million so far to update the aging facility. Twin River is trying to grab some of the gambling business headed to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

"'We're now at a bigger scale. We have dining; we have entertainment. And our goal simply is to keep all that money that was leaving. All our guests who were preferring to go to Connecticut, we have given them a reason to come to Twin River,' said Twin River General Manager Craig Sculos.

"…Revenue from the center will help the state, which is facing a $400 million deficit, and 60 percent of slot revenue goes to the state Treasury.

"…But there could be more competition soon. The Wampanoag tribe, who recently won federal recognition, is looking for a site is southeastern Massachusetts to build a casino, although they need state approval.
