FRENCH LICK, Indiana – The Wright Brothers, once dubbed 'Indiana's Band,' return to their roots next month with live performances at French Lick Resort Casino. The hour-long musical/variety show,
Wright Brothers Band known as "The Hoosier Jubilee" and including the band's long-time musical partner John McDowell, is designed to entertain audiences of all ages. Currently, the cast is scheduled to record two episodes every other Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Windsor Ballroom at the French Lick Springs Hotel beginning April 1, with weekly syndicated radio broadcasts on Network Indiana affiliates beginning April 8. The show runs through the end of June.
"The Hoosier Jubilee" will be recorded live and feature a wide selection of music from the Wright Brothers – classic rock and pop to bluegrass and gospel to Western swing. Along with the "voice" of the show, announcer Al Stone, a cast known collectively as the Lost River Revue creates soon-to-be-memorable characters, such as Mary Lee Maners whose innocent yet annoying reportage of the social calendar recalls the glory days of the valley, and Dell Hickey, "farmer," the company spokesman for the "Good Moos Family Farm Supply," a fictitious sponsor of the show, and others.
"We have been compared to Garrison Keillor's 'Prairie Home Companion,' but actually, our show – and original characters – has been around longer," said Tom Wright. "You'll meet the Gurneys, Cliff and Estelle, who own Gurney's Diner –'Home of the Gurney Burger' and the fellas who hang out at Bobber's Semi-Pro Bass and Bait Shop." At the end of each episode, Tom Wright delivers his often moving and always entertaining stories based on his early years growing up in French Lick.
Special guests will be featured on the show, from national recording acts to regional artists. As host of the show, Tom awards prizes to audience members during the show's trivia segment and a grand prize to a lucky audience member whose name is drawn at the end of the show.
