Hello Mr. A!

by ReadyBetGo Editor
I was staying at the Desert Inn a few years back, the property that Steve Wynn tore down to build Wynn Las Vegas, playing $5 craps at a quiet table in the casino. The Desert Inn at that time wasReadyBetGo EditorThere are occasions when we here at ReadyBetGo want to bring you interesting facts about the gambling industry  When something catches our eye, we will publish it for your enjoyment.  a place that had fallen out of style, so there was nothing unusual about finding a quiet table there. The players and the craps dealers were going through the motions, $5 up here, $5 down there, nothing exciting. That changed quickly when Mr. A. walked up to the table.
I don’t know how many of you out there have had a Mr. A. moment, but if you have, it will be a while before you forget it. If you are lucky enough to be a Mr. A., congrats to you.
When Mr. A. arrived the dealers suddenly woke up. “Hello Mr. A.!  How have you been? We’ve missed you around here.” I can tell you those sentiments were sincere. Mr. A. responded with a casual, “Hi boys, is my thirty still good around here?” “Of course Mr. A.,” responded the energized craps dealers. “How would you like it?” “Nickels and dimes would be fine,” he said.
It took me a while to decode this conversation, but the chips told the story - $30,000 in $1,000 and $500 chips. I was standing right next to the man himself, who on his first bet, put down a “dime” on eleven. Now that was something to see; $1,000 bucks riding on a one roll bet. It just so happened that Mr. A. was also the shooter, so who would bet against him? Well, the eleven didn’t come in, but that didn’t faze Mr. A. He bought some numbers and, within a few rolls, he sevened-out. He was down five grand in just 3 or 4 minutes.
As the dice progressed around the table, Mr. A. kept losing. We were all losing, because we were all betting the pass and the come, except for a young Asian couple, oblivious to the commotion, who kept betting the don’t pass. For every “seven out’ or “craps” and disgruntled expressions from Mr. A. and us, there was a corresponding leap of joy and high fives.
It wasn’t more than fifteen minutes before Mr. A. had used up two thirds of his thirty grand. He was getting more aggravated by the minute. The Asian couple declined to roll, and there was only one shooter between me and Mr. A. The betting was again heavy and just as unsuccessful for this high-roller. By now all of the thirty was gone and jewel-encrusted hand fished into a pocket and pulled out a wad of hundreds about 4 inches thick.
The dice were coming my way, but I couldn’t stomach the idea of losing this guy more money, so I pushed off the table. When I looked back an hour later, he was still there. I don’t know if he was up or down, but he was still in action. Way to go Mr. A!
