ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey - as reported by the Morning Call: "The owner of Tropicana casino resorts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City sent invitations last week to public officials in Allentown to attend a press conference Tuesday, reportedly to detail its proposal for a slots parlor on Agere Systems property in east Allentown.
"Aztar Inc., based in Phoenix, Ariz., would be competing for one of two standalone slots license available statewide..
"Aztar Inc. has been said for months to be interested in the Agere land, next to the proposed minor league baseball stadium.
"The proposal would hold the promise of a windfall of cash for Allentown, which ended 2003 and 2004 with budget deficits, and has been forced to simultaneously increase taxes and lay off workers."
