Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book
by Phil Gordon
Book Picture
Valuable sections include Cash Games AND Tournament Play; Sit and Gos; Satellites and Supersatellites. Nicely illustrated with many lessons, examples and analysis, it’s a balanced, smooth-reading textbook, some of which is based on the author's experience. This balance of common sense, strategies, ploys and an honest appraisal of what was going through his mind when he made his moves adds strength to this powerful, positive pack of lessons. One unique approach is to  'improve at poker is not by finding answers. It is by finding questions,' says champion Chris Ferguson in the foreward. This companion book to Gordon's Little Green Book does just that.

Joe Bartholdi Wins WPT World Championship

Tuesday, April 25, 2006
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Held at the Bellagio Resorts and Casino over a span of 7 days, the WPT World Championship boasted an elite field of who’s who in poker – from WSOP bracelet winnersJoe Bartholdi, a Las Vegas poker pro, took home over $3.7 million after winning the WPT's World Championship.

to WPT Champions.  But by the time the final table was decided, there was one mega-star and a number of seasoned pros.
Here were the names and starting chip counts of the players at the final table:
James Van Alstyne: $8,970,000 – 3rd WPT final table
Joe Bartholdi: $7,135,000 – 1st WPT final table
Claus Nielsen: $5,875,000 – 1st WPT final table
Davidson Matthew: $5,765,000 – 1st WPT final table
Roland De Wolfe: $1,860,000 – 2nd WPT final table
Men “The Master” Nguyen: $1,490,000 – 4th WPT final table
Men “The Master” Nguyen, whose lifetime winnings are over $5 million dollars, brought a lot of experience to the 4th Annual WPT World Championships.  Unfortunately for Nguyen, he was the first to leave, when his pocket tens were beaten with pocket queens.
Next to go was poker pro James Van Alstyne, who has already won over $500,000 this year in other tournaments, but lost most of chips challenging Joe Bartholdi with a suited K 6 versus Bartholdi's pair of kings.
Bartholdi's winning streak continued as he took out Claus Nielsen when he caught a diamond on the river for a King-high diamond flush.
De Wolfe, last year's Grand Prix de Paris winner, was next to face the juggernaut of Joe Bartholdi.  The two got into a big battle when De Wolfe held a pair of sixes versus Bartholdi's pair of queens.  With one more queen on the flop, Bartholdi held off De Wolfe and now only had one player left to worry about.
Davidson Matthew was the only player at the final table that you could argue was out of his league with only $11,000 in lifetime earnings.  He was also at a great disadvantage in chips, holding only 7.02 million to Bartholdi's 27 million.
According the to the poker blog covering the event at the World Poker Tour website, Joe Bartholdi is a poker pro living in Las Vegas and Davidson Matthew owns a small business in Toronto. Bartholdi won a $3,000 satellite at the Bellagio to gain entrance into the tournament. Matthew won a $25 online satellite to get to the tournament.   But when it came down to the end, the overwhelming chip advantage was too much for Davidson Matthew.  We shouldn't feel sorry for him though; he parlayed $25 into a paycheck of $1,903,950 or $76,000+ for every dollar spent -- now that's good investment!  After the tournament Davidson said, "This tournament has turned me from an amateur to a professional. It's set me up to play poker. Now if I lose, financially, it just doesn't matter."

Champion Joe Bartholdi was cheered on by a sizable hometown crowd. His post-tournament plans include taking his cheering section out to "celebrate for a while," and once the party ends he intends go out and "buy a house." His friends were also heard to be talking about a Bartholdi-funded trip to the Caribbean. Money is no object for the newest WPT Millionaire.

This tournament marked the closest yet that a woman has come to making the Final Table of the WPT World Championship. Vanessa Russo of Miami, FL, finished "on the bubble" -- seventh -- but took home to the "Sunshine State" a consoling $263,625.

Congratulations again to this year's big winner Joe Bartholdi who takes home $3,760,165.
