MASSACHUSETTS – As reported by the Boston Herald: "Penn National Gaming - which runs a casino and slot machine empire spanning 12 states - is in serious talks to acquire a major stake in
Revere's struggling Wonderland racetrack, the Herald has learned.
"The Pennsylvania-based gaming company would buy up to 50 percent of the dog track from Boston restaurant mogul Charles Sarkis under a deal being discussed, executives familiar with the talks said.
" Penn's plans include upgrading Wonderland, which has been on the brink of closing over the past couple years - and, if Beacon Hill gives a green light, investing in a major gambling and racing operation.
"Penn's interest in the race track may be the latest sign that gaming companies and casino operators have grown confident about the odds of Massachusetts legalizing slots or casinos…"
