400 video gaming machines; a two-story nightclub; and a buffet restaurant. The official ground breaking took place on October 2 with New York Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno; New York Lottery Executive Deputy Director, Susan E. Miller; Saratoga Gaming and Raceway President, Daniel Gerrity; and Executive Vice President and General Manager, Jamie Hartman participating in the event. The anticipated opening of the expansion is slated for spring 2007.
"I'm very excited about the expansion plans for Saratoga Gaming and Raceway," said Daniel Gerrity, President. "The additional 45,000 square feet of space gives us the opportunity to offer more entertainment and dining options for our valued guests." Architectural design for the project was completed by Connecticut-based JCJ Architecture, the same firm that designed the gaming facility and Fortunes restaurant. Buffalo-based LPCiminelli has been selected as the general contractor, with construction crews to be supplied by local sub-contractors. Jamie Hartman, Executive Vice President and General Manager, said, "Our new expansion will feature a look that pays tribute to the history of Saratoga Springs. It will encompass many of the same architectural elements that have made Saratoga Springs a top tour and travel destination."
"The New York Lottery is excited about the expansion project at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway," said New York Lottery Deputy Director Susan E. Miller. "Saratoga Gaming and Raceway was the first video lottery gaming facility to open in New York State thanks to the leadership of Governor George Pataki. The success of Saratoga Gaming and Raceway is clear -- this facility alone has generated over $148 million for primary and secondary education in New York State."
The new buffet restaurant will be able to seat approximately 300 guests and will offer reasonably priced selections from an array of international cuisines. Featuring two floors of seating and two full-scale bars, the night club will be designed to host a number of different entertainment options such as live bands and performers; disc jockeys; and special events including major sporting events and private parties. Expanding the number of video gaming machines offered by 400, to a total of over 1,700, will ensure that the newest and most popular titles from the leading manufacturers in the industry are always available for patrons at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway. The new gaming floor area will also host a "High Limit" area featuring games with wagers starting at $5.
The expansion project is expected to have a positive impact on the community creating approximately 100 new and permanent job positions and roughly 150 short-term construction positions.
