ERIE, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Centre Daily: "The new slots casino in Erie is proving to be an economic boon to motels in the region as visitors come from Pittsburgh, Ohio and New York.

Presque Isle Downs & Casino's Clubhouse is now open for business. managers say room bookings have increased since Presque Isle Downs & Casino opened Feb. 28.
"The 109-room Tallyho-tel, about one-half mile from the casino, has booked 20 to 30 more rooms each weekend, said regional manager Jamie Maragas.
"Bookings also have increased at the nearby Days Inn, Quality Inn and Suites, Super 8 Motel, Red Roof Inn and Best Western.
"Before the casino opened, the Best Western averaged 30 to 35 booked rooms on weekdays, said general manager Deana Vete. Now, 50 to 55 rooms are booked during weekdays. Also, weekends are sold out.
"The increased occupancy clearly is because of the casino, managers said.
"When guests check in, they ask how far away the casino is and how to get there, Maragas said.
"Gamblers spent more than $57 million in the first week at the casino.
