CHICAGO —As reported by USA Today: "Casinos sprouting across the Midwest are attracting sophisticated cheaters from Las Vegas, Atlantic City and overseas who believe they can scam new, unseasonedShaved coins have been used by cheats at Midwest casinos.

"… Casinos in Iowa — where a half-dozen have opened since 2000 — and other states allegedly have been hit by out-of-state cheats:

"•Three gamblers from the East Coast, including one from Atlantic City, were charged in Osceola, Iowa, with using shaved coins to trick slot machines into awarding credits.

"•A casino in Joliet, Ill., was targeted by a team that included a Nevadan. They were charged with using fake cash vouchers to steal $50,000.

"•Indiana, with help from the FBI and IRS, is investigating international cheaters.

"Employees also steal. Six casino workers were charged in Minnesota with filing phony paperwork to get reimbursed for jackpots they never paid to customers.
