After a quick review of the odds, David Archuletta is the hands down favorite to win American Idol next week. Although there were times during the season when he faltered and looked like an also-ran,
Simon Cowell his consistent performances and winning demeanor have kept in the running. He has also worked hard to remove the annoying aspects of his performances including licking his lips and closing his eyes when he sings. His opponent in the final, David Cook, has the persona and voice to be a rock/pop star, but probably won't get all the votes he needs to overcome Archuletta's boyish charm.
American Idol's ratings are down this year. There are plenty of opinions as to why this is the case, from fan burnout to no real personalities on the stage. This season did have its share of great singers, but the finale will be a let down. The chances of either of the remaining contestants having a pop career seems slim.
